SAMARCO MINERAÇÃO S.A. is a company engaged in the mining, beneficiation, pelletizing and exportation of iron ore. Established in 1977, it today ranks second on the overseas pellet market, selling 100% of its products to over 15 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East and the Americas.

Samarco’s headquarters and main office are located in Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais. The company has one industrial unit in Minas Gerais itself, in the municipalities of Mariana and Ouro Preto, location of its mining and beneficiation Germano Unit, and another in Espírito Santo, in the municipality of Anchieta, location of the Ponta Ubu unit which comprises the pelletizing and port facilities. The iron ore concentrate sent from Germano to Ponta Ubu is conveyed along a 396-km pipeline. The company also has an office in the city of Vitoria, Espírito Santo, for handling foreign trade and exchange operations, in addition to sales offices in Amsterdam and Hong Kong.

Samarco's shareholding is equally divided between Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (largest iron ore exporter in the world) and BHP Billiton (third largest iron ore producer worldwide).

Samarco's productive process starts at the Alegria Mines of the Germano Unit in Mariana, Minas Gerais. During the Mining Process, the mined ore is transported by means of conveyor belts (9 km) to the Beneficiation Plants for the grain size and chemical composition to be adjusted, forming the final concentrate. This concentrate is then transported by a Pipeline (396 km long) to the Ponta Ubu Unit, in Anchieta, Espírito Santo.

At this unit the concentrate passes through the Pelletizing Plants in order to produce the different types of Samarco pellets. The pellets are stockpiled and subsequently loaded at the company's own Port for clients from around the world.

An integrated industrial process, with scrupulous control of information and quality, which includes statistical data during all stages of production. An operation that is safe and stable - with a high automation index, advanced control resources and specialized maintenance, which ensures low variability indexes.

An operation that, in a joint effort with efficient management and financial stability, seeks excellence and makes Samarco the second biggest transoceanic pellet exporter.
