In addition they have carried out extensive research work to develop the Circored® and Circofer® fine ore processing solutions, based on the use of natural gas and non-metallurgical coal respectively. This led to the construction of the first-of-its-kind Circored® plant at Point Lisas in Trinidad.

Outotec is also a licensee of the HIsmelt® process, a fine ore based smelting reduction process developed by HIsmelt® Corporation.
