LKAB is a high-tech minerals group, one of the world's leading producers of highly upgraded iron ore products for the steel industry and a growing supplier of industrial minerals. The main product is pellets for iron production in blast furnaces and direct reduction furnaces. LKAB's magnetite-based pellets are less energy-demanding to produce than other iron ore pellets and are thereby more environmentally friendly. Most deliveries go to European steelmills. Other important markets are North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia . Sales of industrial minerals are mainly to Europe , but are increasing on the Asian and US markets. Total capacity is 23 million tons.

In LKAB's mines, the predominant iron mineral is magnetite. Magnetite has a high iron content and is magnetic, which gives LKAB a considerable advantage. Pellet products account for 76% of the company's total ore sales. Over the past ten years, LKAB has become one of the world's leading pellet suppliers.

DR pellets are used in the direct reduction process to DRI or HBI, which is the first stage in the chain of production from iron to steel. LKAB DR pellets have a considerably lower content of acid gangue than all other iron ore pellets. This results in lower slag volume in the steelmaking and thus lower energy consumption and higher productivity. LKAB has been producing iron ore products for more than 100 years and iron ore pellets for 50 years.

The work of quality has the highest priority. The Total Quality concept represents a holistic approach to the work of quality and is based on customer orientation and continuous improvement. LKAB's future competitiveness depends on the company's ability to develop the entire chain from crude ore to steel. The chain includes not only our own operations and customers' processes, but also all the links between, such as logistics and inventories.
