Sojitz Corporation of America (SCA) was created on April 1, 2004 by the merger of Nissho Iwai American Corporation (NIAC) and Nichimen Inc. (NAI), the two US subsidiaries of major Japanese trading companies.
Both of the American companies were founded in 1952 and headquartered in New York . For over 50 years, they have spearheaded international trade, first from Japan to the US , later from the US to Japan and now from the US to the world. Thousands of companies are among their customers and suppliers. Combined sales of Sojitz Corporation of America are in excess of $8 billion and capital is in excess of $575 million.
Sojitz's business activity is carried out by four groups: Strategic Investment Group, Machinery Industry Group, Consumer Products Group, and Chemical & Plastics Group. Under the Machinery Industry Group is the Mineral Resources Dept. that handles various kinds of Steel Raw Materials & Semi-Final Steel Products, such as Ferrous Raw Materials, Rare Metals, Ferro Alloys, Non-Ferrous Metals, Precious Metals, Minerals and Semi-Final Steel Products. Of all the various products handled by the group, the most promising are Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) Fine, Pig Iron, Coke, Coal, Ferro-Alloys. For over a span of 14 years up to the present time, this group has represented 2 major Venezuelan HBI plants.
